Services Rendered by R&D Centre at Chennai ( email: twosrfac@dataone.in ) a) As part of customer service, we undertake evaluation of used oils & greases from our customers for trouble shooting lubricant related issues. b) For institutional clients, we conduct technical audits/services/ testing of lubricants with a view to optimise lubricant consumption/replacement interval, rationalize purchase and improve inventory management of lubricants. c) We work jointly with many OEM's in developing products for their specific requirements. d) We also undertake testing of lubricants on chargeable basis. Key Instruments Utilisation Auto Penetrometer A measure of the consistency of grease is provided by the cone penetration test value. Grease worker Grease worker is used to subject grease to the required double strokes. Worked penetration results are useful to classify the NLGI consistency grade of grease. Leakage tendencies tester This test differentiates the distinctly different leakage characteristics of greases. Roll stability tester The changes in worked penetration of grease after rolling are believed to be a measure of its shear stability, under the conditions of this low shear test. Oxidation stability tester The resistance of greases to oxidation when stored statically in an oxygen atmosphere at elevated temperature is measured by the change in pressure as a result of consumption of oxygen by oxidation or due to evolution of volatile oxidation by-products. Drop point tester Drop point of grease is useful as a guiding tool to identify the grease type and safe operating temperatures. Life performance of grease This test is useful in evaluating the tester operating time of grease in bearings under prescribed conditions of load, speed and temperature. EP four ball tester The load carrying properties of EP greases is determined by this test. Water washout characteristic grease tester This test assesses the water resistance property of grease from ball bearings under conditions of test. Evaporation loss of grease The loss of volatile materials in tester grease is evaluated by this test. Copper strip corrosion This test is to assess the relative degree of corrosivity of grease with metals. Oil separation of grease Oil separation of grease during storage is determined by this test. FTIR This instrument is used for Structural & Group analysis of oils and greases.
